Ascension - Sable Grace
3.7

Action packed and a gritty this book is an interesting addition to the urban/PNR world. However, serious editing needed to be done before it went to print.

Also, the twist of throwing Haven into the mix ,when it wasn't quite clear what part of the order she was working for, to be the new Artemis was unnecessary. Haven't not been fully developed, her sudden ascension to possible Godhood made little sense. Also, as a character that flitted in and out of scenes, I didn't find such a deep connection with her as maybe I should've. And to turn her made the story seem unnecessarily angsty

The war wasn't explained well enough and the consequences were sort of glossed over, of course most of the pov was seen through Kyana and since she could care less about the Human world....

The switching of Pov's in the middle of the page was annoying but something you get used to and thank god it was only between Ryker and Kyana.

Kyana has a lot of growing to do and with the help of Ryker and Geoff, she may end up a better person. However, she is just enough of a bitch that in the beginning of the book you wonder if you will ever care about her outcome. The supporting cast does its job of bringing out certain softer characteristics of Kyana that you know there is more that meets the eye.

All in all, needs a better content and copy editor and while the War needs to be better explained, the mythology, action and growth potential of Ky (plus the romance between Ryker and Ky) make a good enough concoction to have me ready for the next. A good debut by the authors.
