The Biscuit Witch (A Crossroads Café Novella, Book One of the MacBrides) - Deborah Smith
I'm gonna be honest. I almost gave up on this book because I simply didn't understand whose point of view I was reading for the first three pages.

Then I took a deep breath and pulled my scatters mind together and forged ahead.

I'm glad I did.

This is a tale of love. Plain and simple. The love of family, the love of cooking and the love of a good man.

I just wish it had been longer. The only thing that hurts this tender and interesting story is the length. If it had been longer we could've had more time to get to know the characters, explore Tal and Doug's backstory a bit more and delve a little neater into the family mystery.

Everything happened fast. Some of that was good, some not so good.

I just really wish this had been longer. I really enjoyed this world and the characters within. I also could've used more cooking magic and an explanation of Tal's sensory magic.

Recommended for a beach or a hearth read.
